How big are the 2.5 IDE HDD Market?

ICY DOCK is ready to launch MB448UR that is perfect replacement for floppy drive and targeting 2.5 IDE HDD Market. The outlook of MB448UR looks similar to MB448AR (http://www.icydock.com/product/mb448ar.html)

In the beginning, my point of view on 2.5 HDD market was not great. Because most of 2.5 HDD are already build into laptop, but slowly I found out there is a lot of 2.5 HDD users such as doctors, lawyers and college students that need something that is portable, light weight and compact size.

Other then the Market that I mention above, who else you think needs a 2.5 HDD compact version of external enclosure with a internal housing that replace floppy drive?

ICY DOCK MB448UR is an internal device that replaces floppy drive, with a push of a bottom it will pop out a tray in which become a portable 2.5 HDD drive with USB 2.0 build-in interface connection.

What does the general consumer think about this new item that is ready to be launch by ICY DOCK?

ICY DOCK has launched a new MB556AH-T6 IDE Hard Drive Duplicator.

It contains the following:
- One Tower IDE Hard Drive system
- ICY DOCK 1 to 6 target IDE HDD controller card
- All Removable screw-less IDE HDD trays.

What do you think about this new IDE HDD Duplication system by ICY DOCK?

New MB559 eSATA Bracket

Right now, ICY DOCK is thinking to replace the current MB559 eSATA Bracket to the new version of eSATA Bracket.

What do you think about this new design bracket that can connect to MB559 without AC Power Adapter? Of course, we will also include the AC Power Adapter for portable usage.

Firewire 400 or Firewire 800

Right now we are in discussion on which FireWire interface we should use for the next ICY DOCK MAC enclosure.

Should ICY DOCK choose FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394a) or FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b)?

IC Y DOCK would like to know what does Mac user think about what would be the best interface for Mac and what is the Mac user working habit and preference on enclosure interface?

LCD trays or NOT for MB452 Platinum

As of right now, MB452 Platinum Edition includes:

- Two Trays (both SATA/IDE, non-LCD)
- One SATA Bracket
- One eSATA Cable
- One MB452 Platinum housing (use for both IDE/SATA tray)
- One AC Power Adapter


I was wondering if general consumer prefer LCD tray? Is it only for IDE or SATA tray only or both IDE and SATA? Please view image for detail LCD display.(Click to enlarge)

MB452 Platinum will be coming out winter, 2006 and it will be in store spring, 2007.

Purchase an extra tray from ICY DOCK that which included protection case for MB559, MB561, MB453, MB454, MB455

Since ICY DOCK is specialize in Internal and External IDE/eSATA/Hot Swap Removal Hard Drive enclosure. I had an idea and I was wondering if ICY DOCK should included a protection tray cover that fit into our MB559 and MB561 ( in White tray), also our other multi-bay such as MB453, 454, 455 (in blue tray) (Please view picture)

This idea came out because I had lots of HDD around my working bench and I have no protection cover on extra trays for my enclosure such as MB453, 454, 455 and MB559/561.

Maybe there is a need for protection cover for all trays for MB559, MB561 and MB453, 454, 455. I wonder what does general consumer thinks about this idea, when purchase an extra tray from ICY DOCK that which included protection cover and what will be the good price point for it. (MSRP 24.99 USD or MSRP 29.99 USD)

Is it a good idea to have build-in Wireless NAS for 3.5 HDD Enclosures?

Now day, NAS (Network-Attached Storage) enclosure is getting popular.

Do you think it would be a good idea for ICY DOCK enclosure to have build-in WIRELESS NAS and do you prefer to have it build-in for multi-bay or single bay enclosure?

Do you perfer with or without buldin fan enclosure?

Does today enclosures consumer market prefer with or without build-in fan? The fan function for enclosure will cool down the device, but the noise level is annoyed at times. If you obtain a enclosure without a build-in fan the consumer might think the HDD is under massive of heat and might damage the date that cause HDD malfunction.

What do you prefer as consumer? Should modern day "ENCLOSURE" have or shouldn’t have building fan?

External single unit that can read either IDE or SATA HDD and use eSATA or USB2.0 Output

Many of you already know, ICY DOCK are currently planning to launching a brand new external single bay removal enclsoure that use either SATA I/II or IDE Hard Drive and make it compatible to eSATA/USB 2.0 outputs using MB452 housing design.

Would do you think about this idea and product? Do you think the there is a similar product like this out in the market now? What would be a sweet spot on MSRP or reseller price?
