MB882SP: SATA 2.5' to 3.5' converter

Have you ever wanted to put a 2.5” SATA hard drive inside your computer? How about having a 2.5” SATA hard drive inside one of our 3.5” enclosures and have the desire to carry it around without damaging the hard drive? Do you have a 2.5” SATA hard drive laying around from your old laptop, but never had any opportunity to use it? Need a computer with an Solid-State hard drive inside your system?

If you answered yes, then we have a product just for you that will suit your need. I want to introduce ICY DOCK’s MB882SP-1S series, the enclosure that converts any 2.5” SATA drive into a 3.5” SATA hard drive. Placing a 2.5” SATA drive into one of our MB882 series is very simple and requires no tools or screws to install the drive. Installing the 2.5” SATA drive requires only to slide in the hard drive into the MB882, and taking out the drive will not take any effort. The MB882SP-1S is made out of durable plastic, which protects your hard drive from any scratches or smudges. There are open ventilations on the front and back of the case to keep your hard drive cool. The color of the converter comes in black and white.

This product is very useful for those who prefer speed on their computer because this converter can also take in 2.5” Solid-State Disk (SSD) drives as well. Using this converter will not result in any reduction in transfer speed. One convenient factor about this converter is that it fits into all of ICY DOCK’s enclosures as well as most 3.5” SATA HDD enclosures. A recommended product to use with this converter is the MB671 and MB672 series because it requires no tray. This allows you to plug in your 2.5” SATA drive into the converter, and the converter into the computer for instant access.

So if you are ever in the market for a 2.5” SATA drive, consider purchasing the MB882SP-1S as well. For more information, please visit our website at

  1. Great products! I was just wondering if the multi bay or single enclosures will have NAS capability in the neat future? Thanks

  2. We are still working on having NAS in our enclosures, but not sure on what the plans for it will be. If it ever comes out we will make an announcement.

  6. Hello Icy Dock staff. I've looking since a few months, a device for my computer that gives me the possibility to hot-swap one of my hard disk, for data back-ups purposes. I've been told that your devices are great ones in this area, and I'm quite interested on the MB672SKGF-B model at the moment, for example. But I've one doubt about how your devices work exactly:

    - Lets say that I do not only want to hot swap my hard disk, but also have the possibility to turn it On/Off without hot-swapping it at the same time (so, not removing it from the enclousure). So, is that possible?

I ask this because at first time I thought that the Security Key provided may be not only for open the enclousure but also to turn On/Off the hard disk, so I may turn it off while using my operative system, but without removing it from the enclousure or simply not opening the enclousure at all. Unfortunately, I've been looking at the many FAQ documents and I have not found any info regarding this or the different Security Key functions. I just want to know if any of your devices have the ability to do that. So many thanks in advance for your time.

  7. Aero-R,

Your best bet would probably to go with the MB122SKGF. This utilizes the power on/off feature you are talking about, where the key lock has power capabilities.

The big difference between the two is that the 672 does not have a removable tray, rather the drive is directly inserted into the dock, whereas the 122SKGF has a removable tray. But, it sounds like that would not be too big of an issue since you want to just keep the drive in at all time.

    Best Regards,

    Roland, Team Icy Dock

  8. I just bought the MB882 and my computer won't even recognize the drive. I'm using the same SATA port as before. Nothing.

  9. So the MB672SKGF-B doesn't have the On/Off feature?. It was the perfect match for me when I saw it. To turn it off I should have the door slightly opened then or does it have the feature?

I'm interested on the internal models that supports S-ATA II, and have a black colour. May you give me a list of the ones that have that On/Off feature?

I guess that they are simply the ones who have the 3 positions into the Key, by looking at the pictures, but I'm not sure.

    Thanks for your support !!

  12. Aero-R,

The MB123SK (non-LCD) and MB122SKGF (w/LCD) feature a black color as well as ability to disable the power via the keylock.

On the MB672SKGF, the drive will power down when it is disconnected from the dock. However, to avoid any issues, be sure to check that you have hot swap capabilities.

  14. Why is the MB452MK-B being discontinued? Is there any replacement that completely encloses the hard drive? I need something that has a media tray that does not expose the actual sata disk. MB452MK-B is amazing.

  15. Scan.co.uk tell me that this product is end-of-life and this is why it's been removed from their web site.

Disappointing as I can't see a product on the market that does the same job.

  16. Erik,

The MB452MK has been discontinued because it wasnt moving well. Currently the only replacement is MB452UKGF. Out of the box, it is an IDE external enclosure with USB interface. But, we do sell a SATA tray, fully enclosed, that is compatible with this model.

However, this is also discontinued, and we only have a few left in stock.

www.buywee.com is the only place it is available currently.

    Model number for dock: MB452UKGF
Model number for SATA Tray: MB452URCK

Let us know if you have further questions.

  17. Ian,

That couldn't be farther from the truth. We have no current plans of taking this off the market.

In fact, we only have plans to improve this. Look out this summer for some new releases that any SSD fan will surely enjoy :)

  18. Thanks for your response regards the MB882SP not being discontinued - this is encouraging.

However, your UK supply chain see things differently! The exact response from scan.co.uk was - "If that was the product LN26299, then this has now been set as end of life and removed from the website. As such, we are unable to source this item."

Other UK vendors also seem to gave dropped the MB882SP from their web sites.

I guess I'll keep on hunting.

  20. I have sent three emails to the cremax address, and have had read receipts from sam@cremax.com, but haven't had a response. I'll try one more time.

A bit of an impasse, really. You seem to have good products on paper, but unless people can actually buy them, it's all a wee bit moot.
