Greetings!

I wanted to introduce a new product from ICY DOCK. It's called an EZ-dock, and it's our first docking station for 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives. It provides a USB for universal support and e-SATA for 3 Gb/sec transfer rates. If using a 2.5" SATA drive, power adapter is not necessary. Simply connect the USB bus into the computer and you are ready to use the hard drive. The on/off toggle switch makes it easy to conserve energy and extend the life of a drive. The stand is easily detachable and allows the dock for better portability. Take a look at the picture, and you can see that the hard drive is not enclosed so it allows better heat dissipation.

For all the photographers and video editors out there who needs to carry around their hard drives, we provide a carrying case which allows you to carry your dock and 2.5” hard drive anywhere you go (carrying case will include with the dock). This lightweight dock can lay on any surface for hard drive stability and is small enough to grasp with just a hand. This simply, yet elegant, design will definitely stand out in any room and will work on any Windows and Mac systems.

Here are the features:

+Supports both 3.5” & 2.5” SATA I/II hard drives
+When using 2.5" SATA drive, power adapter and cable is not required (only the USB bus)
+Design for PC & Mac systems
+Plug & play design. Easy to install / swap hard drive in 5 sec
+On/off switch allows hard drive life expendability and energy conservation.
+Stand is detachable for portable use.
+Support eSATA connection for maximum SATA performance.
+Carry case protect your hard drive and important data when using as portable 2.5” enclosure.
+Simple stylish elegant design

  1. Does it support power down / power management like your screwless 3.5 esata enclosure?

Would be nice if all product specs explicitly stated if they does this or not.

  3. Hi-
How do you get a combo esata/USB device to work with OS X 10.5.7? Mine causes a kernel panic and the conclusion from all of my research suggests that the issue is that all OS X versions after 10.5 will not allow the use of a combo esata/USB enclosure. I have tried over and over and it just does not work. I have tried the drivers for Sil 3132 SATALink Controller. Uninstalling, wiping the various .kext entries, reinstalling, etc.

    Any suggestions would be welcomed!

    Best regards,
    RJ Scott

  4. RJ,

I am not sure i understand the issue you are having. If you are using both interfaces at the same time, it will not work with any operating system. You must use one or the other.

As far as an enclosure that offers both interfaces, there should be no issues with this. USB is plug and play and will work on all operating systems. eSATA, as long as you have hot swap functionality, will also be plug and play.

Also, which unit are you using?

And please, use our tech email address instead. You will get a much faster reply as the blog is not check frequently. We mainly use it for promotions, tutorials, and product updates.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

  5. This is in response to RJ... I had the same issue with my ICY DOCK MB561US-4S . The problem lies in the driver that is available in the ICYDOCK website. The package also contains the driver for Silicon Image's RAID5 driver. After considerable (months) research, I found out that only the SiL 3132 base driver is sufficient. It can be found at:
    http://www.siliconimage.com/support/searchresults.aspx?pid=32&cat=3

    Search for "SiI 3132 32-bit universal Mac OS X 10.4.9, 10.4.10, & 10.5.1 BASE Driver"

I hope this helps anybody who had issues with the MB561US-4S.

BTW, Technical support for ICYDOCK asked me to do some crazy things before that didn't work (like move the express card to a different slot, etc).
