New Concept - Optional Card Reader & USB Hub for MB663UR Series

We at Icy Dock want to know what the readers out in internet land think about “card reader” and “USB hub” options for the MB663UR-1S / MB663UR-1A. These options would be able to plug into the housing like a regular hard drive tray. The user would have the option of using it internally in their system or externally with a USB connector wire in the back.

What would you, the user, be willing to pay for such options? Would this, in your opinion, be useful to your needs? Let us know your thoughts.

  1. I personally would like to see an lcd that displays the temp and smart attributes, if smart senses a problem with the drive some sort of notice from the enclosure would be nice. I currently own your MB559US-1S enclosure, it would be nice to know the temperature and smart attributes of the drive, I cant personally view them because i don't have esata support.

  2. I think I'd buy one or both. If you could also make a 3.5" Floppy disk enclosure that would fit in it as well. Lots of computers don't have floppy drives anymore, but sometimes they are needed. Could even boot from it by setting the "boot from usb floppy" in the BIOS.
I just started looking at the MB663UR-1S / MB663UR-1A as an alternative to the Iomega Rev Drive wich I think costs way too much.

  3. I would like to see you make a competitive product to the Lindy Data Dock and have an available option for SATA. Currently I can find a clone of the Lindy Data Dock (w/o the SATA or media card options) for a little over $20 available in the US. A good entry level price would be $50 for the hub, dock, media card reader, and HDD enclosure..

  4. I wouldn't be all that excited. Often I would find myself wanting to put data on the drive that the card reader option just pushed the drive aside for and as far as a hub option displacing my hard drive? no thanks either..

Now if you could wedge a card reader into a drive enclosure and still fit the hard drive in - or stick a couple port hub on a drive tray.. bonus..

  5. Conceptually, this is a great idea, especially for those of us that are doing any postproduction work in the field.

Would there be room to offer a CF card reader / USB / Firewire combo ? From my perspective this would be really sweet, as I often need to use a variety of external devises, and keeping things organized would be useful.

    Thanks Troy

  6. I think that this is a great idea. I would like for a 2.5 inch HDD combo drive that has a card reader on it. I would pay about $55 on it, but it will have to be like a piano black to match my NZXT Trinity case.

  8. If you live in Europe, you might want to try www.raidsonic.de. If they don't have the parts, you can request it from their resellers and their distributors will get it for them.
