ICY DOCK would like to present two different type of the MB561. This is the perfect mass storage solution for the professional Photographer, Video Editor, Graphic Designer and Mass Media Manager. When secure data is a necessity our enclosure combined with a RAID card (of your choice) will keep all those video, photos, and graphics safe. It holds 4 HDD and is hot swap capable.
For the MB561U-4S (USB 2.0) with built-in enhanced JBOD function allows users to combine 2 or more HDD’s and have them recognized as one volume. This configuration gives the user the freedom to increase their storage capacity as needed.
The MB561S-4S is available now while the MB561U-4S will be available in summer 2007.
MB561S-4S highlights:
* Works with any Mac or Windows system
* Four eSATA cables are included
* 2x2 eSATA bracket included
* White LED light
* Removable cooling fan for easy maintenance
* Aluminum body design
* Mac design concept
* Hot swap tray design
* Interchangeable tray with MB559 series
* Smart fan (changes speed with the temperature)

Enhanced JBOD
Hello, I really like your product. That would be great to eliminate the 40mm fan noise. I have several silent MB559 but I cannot buy MB561 simply because of the noise.
ReplyDeleteHey, Thank you for choosing ICY DOCK products,
ReplyDeleteWe already set the 40mm fan speed to the RPM that produced the best cooling at the lowest noise, The fan ran fine down to about half its original speed and got much less loud with the lower RPMs.
We slow down the fan enought to take the edge off of the noise and keep the performance to acceptable levels.
Would be nice if you could find a way to use a 120mm fan.
ReplyDeleteAlso the idea is cool but not having the option for RAID 0, 1 and 5 really limits this I'm afraid.
When will the USB version be out ?
ReplyDeleteAny plans for a FireWire Version?
Please do a 1394b model. High-end iMacs need good storage options like this.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a firewire 800 option on the 4 bay.
ReplyDeleteAny plans for a version with a eSATA port multiplier so that I only have to run one cable to my mobo and also use this device as a RAID array. Many mobos have portmultiplier aware SATA controllers these days so it makes sense to me
ReplyDeleteAny update on the MB561U-4S release date? It is now Summer 2007.
ReplyDeleteUSB and the Enhanced JBOD are important options the MB561S-4S sorely lacks.
Still waiting ....
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with the comment about an eSATA port multiplier version. I am a big fan of your enclosures but don't want to have all of those cables coming out of my PC.
ReplyDeleteI was almost going to buy this, but I am holding out for a future improved version.
ReplyDelete1) With a larger fan to decrease noise yet still keep the drives very cool. Better yet a design that allows us to attach our own 120mm fan of our choice.
2) Toolless design. Being able to just swap out one drive for another without having to mess with any screws would be awesome.
I have an MB561S-4S running off a Sonnet Tempo-X eSATA 4+4 card in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, but the drives won't show up. Do I need to put a drive in each bay? I see DIP switch settings here, but nothing is mentioned in the manual about it.
ReplyDeleteWhat's up? Is it Leopard compatible?
If this box had an eSata Port Multiplier I would seriously get three more! But since it doesn't I'm stuck with just the four drives :(
ReplyDeleteAlso the inclusion of FW800 with esata would be awesome; USB is ok but not great. With FW800 at least we have the best speed and if we needed we can always get a 800 to 400 cable adapter.
Lastly, the internal fan (and I'm not talking about the big fan) is SO loud I really don't use it much :( Is there a way to tune it down/disable it/ or something?
I also strongly agree that an eSATA port multiplier version would be highly desirable. I own 2 MB559US-1S enclosures and would love to buy a MB561 version that supplied a port multiplier.
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in the USB version of this product. Any word on date of availability? I am also very interested in a model with a built-in port multiplier, anything in the works?
ReplyDeleteGrte product but the small fan for the powersupply is verry noisy it sounds like it is running on full speed at all time with four disks.
ReplyDeletethis would be just what i was looking for but.....
ReplyDeletehave to agree on the fan noise - read around on the web and the fan is always listed as noisy. thats not going to fit with a quiet mac pro setup - often used for audio recording for example.
port multiplier seems good as well - although to be honest not sure if that's available on my mac pro
