Is it a good idea to have build-in Wireless NAS for 3.5 HDD Enclosures?

Now day, NAS (Network-Attached Storage) enclosure is getting popular.

Do you think it would be a good idea for ICY DOCK enclosure to have build-in WIRELESS NAS and do you prefer to have it build-in for multi-bay or single bay enclosure?

  1. An idea might be to make an external NAS, with wired and wirelss built in, so if say i was home I could use the wireless capabilites but yet if I was away I could still easily access the data, securely of course. So this would not be a built in device but similar to an external hard drive enclosure with some added extra features, it could be made multi-bay or single-bay as well...

  2. I think that this would be a good idea due to the fact that it can be placed anywhere. It would be nice if both were wireless capable but if I had to pick one it would probably be the multibay.

  3. Would love a NAS system on my network. I don't know if I would be a big fan of it being wireless. What would be the point? If used in a home environment, it would probably be located by the router anyway. Thus, it could be hooked up to the router by ethernet cable.
If your computer was hooked up to the router by cable, it would give you the full 100 MPS throughput. If it was wireless, it would reduce the file transfer speed to Way below that.
I would rather have transfer speed over wireless any day.

  4. Wireless NAS would be a nice feature however I personally would rather have a wired NAS connected to my wireless router. I am certain that there would be a minor delay in using the router than the actual device to transmit the data however by keeping the system as simple as possible you leave less room for mistakes. Another problem would be the strength of the signal and the encryption involved, having already invested a decent amount into a wireless network that is WPA2 secured, I would hate to have to drop money on features that I wouldn't use(weaker signal and dealing with multiple signals and passwords). Now something that could be useful would make this NAS a combined wireless/wired router thereby consolidating a lot of boxes into a single unit.

  5. I think build-in wireless is a nice idea but since it's an HD enclosure, maybe have the option of both wireless and wired will be better since wired usually is much faster than wireless, so the data transfer is much rapid.

  6. Wireless would be fine, as long as there was still an IDE or SATA connection. Since NAS is not yet as fast as wire yet.

I personally think that multi-bay enclosures would be used with NAS more than a single drive. Great Idea for servers.

  7. I think wired will give better speeds, which is what most people are after. However, depending on the router location for the network, wireless could be far more convienient, as I may be swapping drives out for the NAS near my computer, but the router could be in another office or location.
Wired + wireless would be good on it, as someone else had mentioned, if I happen to have to travel with the enclosure I'd like to be able to plug it in if wireless isn't available.
It would probably be used more on multi-bay enclosures, as a method of mass-storage on the network. However, maybe one multi and one single bay enclosure with this option would be helpful too.

  8. Wireless NAS is a good selling point - due to it's flexibility. Still, due to photography and video work, I prefer a multibay Wired NAS server with a 100/1000 Mbps connection.
